MISS DEANNA FOR MARTIN MARGIELA

From the early 1990s to the early 2000s, Maison Martin Margiela’s knitwear and tops were designed by MISS DEANNA. MISS DEANNA started her career in 1964, and in the 1970s had been involved in various projects centering on collaborations with Europe’s collection brands. By the 1990s however, with an increasing curiosity towards the next generation designers and a desire to support their creative practice, she began to focus on working with the rising designer of the time such as Martin Magiela, Neil Barrett, Lawrence Steele, and Antonio Marras.
The exhibition showcases 100 of Martin Margiela’s knitwear pieces designed by MISS DEANNA between 1995 and the early 2000s, presenting MISS DEANNA and Martin Margiela’s creative aesthetic that distinguishes itself from general trends in fashion.

1990年代初頭から2000年初頭までMaison Martin Margielaのニットとカットソーは、ニットデザイナーのMISS DEANNAによって製作されていました。彼女は1964年から活動を始め、1970年代にはヨーロッパを中心とした様々なコレクションブランドとコラボレーションによる製作活動を行っておりましたが、90年代に入ると次世代を担うデザイナーへの好奇心が高まり、彼らの創作活動を支援する思いを込めてマルタン・マルジェラやニール・バレット、ロウレン・スティールやアントニオ・マラスなどの当時若手であったデザイナーとの取り組みが主となりました。
エキシビションにおいては1995年から2000年代初頭に製作されたMISS DEANNAによるマルタン・マルジェラのニットを100点一挙に御披露目し、MISS DEANNAとマルタン・マルジェラによる流行に左右されない世界観を表現致しました。
