Phoebe Philo 1st collection for CÉLINE

At the age of 14, British designer Phoebe Philo began customizing her clothes after receiving a sewing machine as a birthday present from her parents. She graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 1996, and in the following year joined Chloé where she worked as a design assistant for her friend Stella McCartney. In 2001 she succeeded McCartney’s position as creative director of the brand, leaving in 2006 to take a break from the industry to be with her family. In 2009, she was appointed as the creative director of CÉLINE, and in 2014 was selected as Time Magazine’s World’s 100 most influential figures.
Phoebe Philo’s collections incorporate elements of strength and sophisticated fluidity while inheriting CÉLINE’s concepts of Parisian chic that has remained a fundamental feature of the maison, serving to lead the women of today through considered pieces that respond to their essential needs and desires. Her pieces that combine the use of high-quality materials and advanced techniques with the reality of dailywear, have inspired women with the joy and pleasures of personal dress as well as the very power to live through our contemporary times. As a result, she is recognized today as one of the most influential designers to have brought significant change to the styles of women throughout the world. While having developed an extensive archive of her works with much respect to both her creations and her practice as a designer, this exhibition at LAILA comprised solely of pieces from Phoebe Philo’s 2010 Resort Collection and 2010 Spring Collection that most profoundly reflect the designer’s identity.

14歳の誕生日に両親から贈られたミシンで服のカスタマイズを始め、1996年、セントマーチンズを卒業。翌年には友人であるStella McCartneyのデザインアシスタントとしてChloéで働き始め、2001年に自身が同ブランドのクリエイティブディレクターに就任。2006年に家族との時間を優先させる為Chloéを辞任し、2009年、CÉLINE のクリエイティブディレクターに就任。2014年にTime Magazineにて世界で最も影響力のある100人に選ばれたイギリス人デザイナー、Phoebe Philo（フィービー・ファイロ）。
彼女は従来のCÉLINEが得意としていたパリ・シックを継承しながらも強さとしなやかさを持ち合わせた世界観によって他のどんな服にも満足出来なった女性達に“まさに今、私達が着たい物だ”と思わせ、現代を生きる女性達をリードし続けてきました。上質な素材や高度なテクニックを用いながらも日常着として寄り添うリアリティーを兼ね合わせた作品は、誰の為でもなく自分自身の為に纏う事の喜びや現代を生き抜く力までもを与え、世界中の女性のスタイルを一変させた最も影響力のあるデザイナーの一人です。LAILAはかねてより彼女と彼女の作品に敬意を表しアーカイヴとして収集してきましたが、この度のエキシビションにて彼女のアイデンティティーが最も色濃く反映された2010年リゾートコレクション、 2010年スプリングコレクションを御披露目致しました。
